Skills and Abilities
Skills and Abilities are a major factor in Dragonfyre than they are in other games. Skills ate natural abilities that are inherent from your race or class, while Abilities are learned at the start of the game. Each player is given their choice of 3 Abilities to begin the game with, and more can be learned as the game progresses from anyone who knows the abilities themselves.
Abilities also gain experience when the player performs them. (With exceptions, of course.) A player who gets a job at a local Blacksmith may find themselves with a Proficient Smithing skill before long! Abilities are capped at level 5, Legendary, which gives the player access to advanced crafts and abilities from the Legendary Ability. Some abilities eve give permanent bonuses to stats when they reach Legendary status!
As a rule of thumb, Skills are almost always more powerful than Abilities, unless the Ability is of a high level. However, once an Ability reaches Proficient or Legendary, a Skill of the same type is quickly dwarfed from the benefits that Abilities give. Skills are, for the most part, good for starting players, while Abilities are for long-time players.
Skills are abilities that are given by choosing a specific class or subclass, and can never gain experience or level. However abilities are chosen at the beginning of a game and taught by knowledgeable people ingame, and can gain experience up to Level 5 (Legendary).
Note Skills or Abilities that cannot be learned at game start are noted under their description. Skills that require a specific class are also noted.
